Robert L. Stevenson Elementary School Reviews

Best school ever. Those negative ratings are mostly from parents who's children where behind academically and they preferred to leave the school to avoid a hold back. All schools are too concerned about their Test scores and ratings, but the government is to blame for that. I have my 2 children at Stevenson and we love it.

I love Stevenson! My husband and I put our son into this school last year and are impressed with the academics, arts program, and the dedication to students the staff has. Since there is so much time spent on the arts and performances, it isn't for everyone. I keep my son there (advanced, needs challenging), and my daughter at a different school, because she needs more time in the classroom. A-plus!

What can I say about Stevenson that would do it justice? It is unlike any other school. This school is driven to be the best. It drives the students to be their best and instills a sense of community and a work ethnic. The teachers have always been there..before and after school working hard behind the scenes. My child has learned something that will benefit him tremendously every year. he learned how to ace the FCAT writes, conduct science experiments, and master all math lessons and even was accepted into the high school math classes in 7th grade . It isn't a school for the lazy student or the enabling parent. I can proudly say it is a school for rigorous and challenging work. You can tell from the last day of school when the children are bawling that they LOVE their school. Go RLS!

My child is completing the first year of school at RLS and couldn't be happier. He is thriving academically and socially, and has the opportunity to advance even further with the arts and music, both areas that can enhance a child's academic performance. His teacher is excellent, showing creativity, excitement, and teaches to each child's strengths. The children in his class and throughout the school appear happy, friendly, polite, behavior problems are few and academics are strong. I very strongly disagree that the school focuses on their ratings, scores, or image; I see the focus during school and during afternoon activites on building a well-rounded child. There are many opportunities for parents to be involved, to be a part of their child's education, and get to know the staff members teaching and caring for their child. My younger child is looking forward to starting school at RLS in the future.

I was so excited for my grandchildren to be going to this school, I had heard such great things about RL Stevenson... But I believe that most of the teachers & staff have forgotten that they are teaching 'Children' in elementary school Not high school ! They are focusing more on how the school is rated for the year than on the 'children' they are teaching. I believe they are so concerned with their Image... they take their frustrations out on the children & their parents. I would not reccommend this school to anyone, And I am very relieved that they will not be going there next year !

this school prides itself on it's blue ribbon and a rating.aside the happy face they all put on at performances this school has a severely negative atmosphere the overall well being of the child and his future is not the heart of this school,it's principal or staff. The kids are brow beat, bullies, punished and made a spectacle of If your child is 'into' the arts,do not send them here the attitude and negativity will quench their excitement and leave them wanting nothing to with the arts it's quite sad and I've seen this happen to many children I didn't think it would happen to mine since the school puts on such a front.music and band if you have any knowledge of music you'll notice immediately that they do not teach proper technique stance etc it's only learn the song so you can play and make the school look good.

very negative discouraging place for a child to be

We had trouble selecting a school last year, trying to decide whether to stay with a church-based private school, or move to Stevenson. We decided on Stevenson and I couldn't be happier. My son's teacher is excellent, as are all the extracurricular teachers (art, music, dance, and PE). There are plenty of opportunities for after-school involvement, particular in the arts, but also academic-based clubs. The educare (before/after care) department is phenomenal, and the office staff is friendly and helpful. My son has really blossomed at Stevenson, and I'm looking forward to sending two more kids their way when the time comes.

This is the third school my daughter has attended and I have to say that the front office staff, especially Ms Jan, has made us feel right at home. My daughter has been attending there just 1.5 weeks and she has been constantly challenged by the teacher and she has taken huge leaps in her learning. Her

This has been the best school choice we have made for our two boys. I have seen my children develop great work and study habits. The staff is very accessible and willing to help. The children have blossomed well in this environment both academically and emotionally. This school is driven to succeed and expects your child to develop the same drive and love of learning. Parent involvement is mandatory with 20 volunteer hrs per year

This is a terrific school. Academics, however, are intense and both children and parents need to be prepared for a very busy school year. The adminstration and staff are fully committed to preparing the children for a bright future. In addition, the arts/drama/music program is exceptional. You couldn't ask for a better well rounded school. The only area that is lacking is sports. Sports programs not available within the school (it's primary anyways), but PE teacher is great and is making strides to better the program. Parents are required to volunteer 20 hours/year and many volunteer way over the requirement. It has a private school feel without the tuition.

A top-notch school with a dedicated staff. Front-office staff is easy to work with, and the school administration provides plenty of opportunities for parental involvement in all aspects of student activities. I highly recommend this school for anyone living in Brevard County who has children interested in music and performance art.
