Cocoa Beach Junior/Senior High School Reviews

Until Mr. Cool took over, CBHS used to be a great school. Because of the way he runs the school & doesn't support the faculty, many of the best teachers left for other schools. He doesn't care about the students, just himself & his blonde deans. Discipline is a joke now & the kids know it. There are some beautiful science labs at the school but students aren't allowed to use them. At graduation, the Minuteman Award used to go to someone who did a lot to help the students. Now it goes to people who give money to the athletic program. Because the IB & AP students are smart, Mr. Cool and the blondes are always putting them down. Ms. Vahn was a great principal. The teachers are great & really want the kids to succeed. Most of them arrive early & stay late to tutor students who need help.

my child is enrolled in the IB program.. I am not that impressed. when our family was going to move to another state they actually said my child was behind and would have to retake a couple of classes, particularly the sciences since CBHS did not utilize the beautiful science labs they have at the school. i was dumbfounded that my child is in the IB and behind.. I also found that the administration is unorganized on the volunteer hours and the different projects are a joke. My child worked all year on his project in the 10th grade while some of his friends did it at the last minute with the same outcome which frustrated him. wouldnt do it again.

i cant stand this school. I've been to six different schools this being my seventh and i hate it. A lot of the teachers are not very good at teaching the right things.

The broad specturm of activities available in this school is unbelievable compare to other public & private schools. Music, art, and athletics are easily available. The parents are very active giving it more of a family environment a place where everyone knows your name. The teachers also tend to know a lot of the kids even if they are not in their class and they encourage (with some genlte nudging & pushing to not take the easy road-take the road that meet your potential. The kids describe it as pushy for a purpose.

I'm not parent at this school, im a student. I just arrived here for 7th grade and let me tell you, your first few weeks are a crazy experience... Yes I do like the school, I feel that simply the way teachers teach here makes learning easier, and suprisingly fun! They all understand the fact that were still children, so they put us into consideration when making lesson plans, teaching ect. Other than the older kids being immature, I really do love this school. It gives me a new perspective of clenliness, and independence.

CBHS has a lot going for it. Most importantly the high caliber of teachers it attracts. The assigned work challenges and raises student's achievement level. More is expected of the students and more is provided to them through discussion/interaction. Also, the school is not too highly populated, which directly corresponds to the quality of everything a student experiences on a day to day basis. One area of improvement is in one-on-one attention. Teachers will sometimes take the student's self-sufficiency for granted and the 'culture' of the classroom may not 'invite' a struggling student to ask for help. Teachers should be willing to reach out and offer whenever they see weak areas that could be improved with an after-hours meeting with the student. Teachers don't take the initiative to do this and students are embarrassed to seek them out.

My daughetrs both attend Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr High School. We will be relocating in 2 weeks and they hate to leave. Overall it has been a good school for my girls.

My daughter has attended Cocoa Beach for 2 years and is enrolled in the IB program. The quality of the education she is receiving far exceeded my expectations. She is involved in many extracurricular activities with both IB and non-IB students. I highly recommend this school!

Okay, so I'm not a parent, but I do attend Cocoa Beach High. Its a perfectly safe environment where I feel I can learn what I need to succeed in life. We have the prestigious IB program for exceptional students which attracts people from all over the county, and I have lots of friends who are part of it, although I choose to take advanced placement classes. My father, cousin and brother all attended CBJSHS and they never had any complaints, and neither do I. The teachers are nice and offer help in the mornings/afternoon if I am having trouble in their classes, dress code is enforced for both students and faculty (despite a prior post) and there are a wide variety of extracurricular activities. I am by no means very enthusiastic about school in general, but I feel that this is really the best school. And lets just say that when I have kids, I won t hesitate to send them there.

The school is challenging academically but it certainly prepares students for higher education. Unlike other schools we looked at, nearly all of the graduates go on to college.

We have three sons who have attended CBHS. Two of them are at the United States Naval Academy. The third is a senior. Cocoa Beach High School thoroghly prepared them to attend the best colleges/universities in this nation. The I.B. program brings the highest level course to the school and whether your child is officially in the program or not they can still take the classes. That is a definate perk. The leadership from the students as well as the administration is awesome. Many Christians - the school is very open to people of faith. Mrs. Vann runs a tight ship and we were thankful for that.

After reading some of the reviews I asked my daughter about the girls restroom. She said they are gross. I plan to visit them next time I'm there. My daughter is in 9th grade at Cocoa Bch Jr.Sr. High coming from private school in So. Fl. I didn't realize there would be no homework given or very little. She is use to homework every night from the past years. I did find out that if you don't get on the email list through the library to get the updates then you have to wait till the news letter comes in the mail. The email list is the best.

Our child has gone to Cocoa Beach for over three years now and we are very happy with the school. In fact, we moved out of the school district and he still attends. I understand there is a problem with the dress code and restroom quality. Other than that, I wouldn't want my kids to go anywhere else.

As a past Alumni of this school, I would just like to say that I think Cocoa Beach is an excellent school. The administration and teachers go out of their way to make this school a better place. This school maintains a great laid back setting while providing an excellent education and superb athletics and extra-curricular activities.

My 14 year old daughter attends CBJSHS. I found out that open house just happened to be the same day I picked her up from school. I couldn't attend because of other plans. Why wasn't I notified? My daughter is fairly conservative the way she dresses. However, she did get detention because her shirt came above her pants line. I had gone to the school one day and saw one teacher that had pink in her hair and another teacher that should have been dress coded. There are so many things that I could go on about - drugs, FCAT's (why do they teach so much about what's on the test rather than just teaching them?), attitude given by staff, why teacher don't make more money, etc.

Okay-my 2 students go to your school and all I ever hear is complaints about fights and gross bathroom and mean staff members and unless you fix your school I'm moving my kids!
