Edgewood Junior/Senior High School Reviews

Exercise your SCHOOL OF CHOICE option to move to another area high school once you the parent(s) and your student(s) validate and verify this overated, Edgewood. Critical items to consider: Beware of the few selections of courses when entering high school level administration is inflexible in changing you schedule. Observe the experienced teachers are leaving and being replaced by inexperienced staff now assigned to teach AP courses. Let the record show one measure of success...poor retention! Since the first graduating class of 2007, the high school enrollment continues to decline. In fact, the class of 2008 has the lowest graduates to date. Of course school funding is based on student population, the less enrolled the fewer quality selections. Keep you school of choice open...until the Edgewood administration turnover.

my son has attended Edgewood for four years and I feel he's getting the best education there. Their fine arts program is excellent, the communication with the faculty and staff is wonderful, teachers are more than willing to keep in email contact with parents regarding grades and performance. I always receive quick responses to my questions on my son's grades. Parental involvement is phenomenal and it reflects in the kids' behavior and performance. Kudos the Edgewood!

Edgewood has been an experience! Some good, some not so great! I would suggest every parent give a great deal of thought to sending their children to Edgewood. If your children are easily influenced and often don't make the wisest choices, this may be the place to consider. However, if you have bright, self-reliant kids, who generally make good decisions, this environment won't expand on the opportunities to mature and become even more self-sufficient. At times it seemed as though those children needing the most discipline and structure were favorites. Somewhat like 'the noise wheel gets the grease'. Good, average performing, nice kids get just the bare minimum of administration's time or influence.

The academic programs are awesome. Students are encouraged to take higher courses. Though the performing arts program is great and becoming better every year, the physical education department is not very good.

Many of the teachers at Edgewood are new. Some of them are great and others play favorites and don't keep the class on task. Students that are average on test scores will find it hard to excel at Edgewood. All the emphasis is put on grades and only those students that obtain very high grades get any cudos. If your student is shaky in a subject(s), they may find it hard to keep up. My child will be changing schools.

Edgewood Jr/Sr High School is a very special school. Teachers have high expectations of the students and the students have high expectations of the school. The goal is for every Edgewood graduate to walk away from their senior year with a college scholarship. This year's first graduating class will come close to that goal.

My child has been a student at Edgewood for 3 years. It is a great learning enviromen! The academics are gret, teachers truly care about and respect the students. In three years there has only been one physical altercation where a student was expelled, and only one issue concerning drugs on campus. The arts programs is wonderful. The drama, and chorus instructors are great. Parents are involved. I can't say enough good about this school.

I have to say the teachers are very involved with the students. That I like. But - the administration makes that involvement useless. The admin definitely plays favorites among students. We should have moved the kids to the IB program when we first considered it. The difference is night and day!

My daughter, now in 9th grade, is in her third year at Edgewood. I feel secure knowing that she is getting an excellent education in a safe environment. I appreciate the fact that they have the ability to remove troublemakers and non-performers instead of having them impacting the kids who really want to learn. We live in Titusville and the 21 mile bus ride is well worth it! I continue to recommend Edgewood to anyone wants a small private school environment for their bright, well behaved teen.

This school is a school of choice, but it was a poor choice for our son! The administration goes out of their way to make it sound like they'll have your child's best interests at heart, but they're (the principal particularly) really more interested in the school's statistics. My younger daughter will go to Merritt Island High School where the choices and students are much more diverse.

Edegwood is the best school in the world!

academic programs are not so good. my daughters teachers are young and inexperienced. music program seems good, they spent 11 million on it. art im not sure. sports, they are usually only good at bowling. they dont have many extracirriculars. they involve us a lot with volunteering, but some parents just dont have time.

I have two daughters attending this school and we are very, very pleased with it. The standards are set high for the children. There are no behavior problems. The teacher's make learning fun. the kids are respected and are given a bit more freedom. The middle school kids can letter in sports. Excellent all the way around.

My son is a 7th grader, and the academics seem to be good. I feel they have plenty of selections for kids in this grade level to choose from. As far as extracurricular, as with any 'school' of choice, they are limited. All parents are required to volunteer at least 20 hours per year, and the sudents are required to submit thier own required community volunteer hours as well. I would have to say that my biggest complaint about this school is the lack of communication. If your child wants to try out for a sports team...they might be lucky to know about tryouts the day before...same with drama, clubs, etc. Only 3-4 newsletters per year, and most of the info is fluff or outdated. I really wish the communication was consistant and better. I also wish they could be more organized with scheduling extracurricular activities in advance for parents.

Edgewood is a well rounded school. They aren't only focused on the childs academic learning process but also their athletics, social, and life skills.

This is a school of choice which stresses high academics. It is a small high school compared to those near by and it offers a more personal touch for the student and teachers.Parents need to give 20 hours of volunteer hours at the school and each student is expected to give 20 hours in community service.

My daughter has been a student of Edgewood for four years. She will be in the first graduating class (2007). I cannot say enough great things about this school. It's smaller size means that my daughter knows all of her classmates and she isn't lost in the crowd. Because students must apply for admission, you only have students there that really want to learn and want to be there. This makes for a very good learning environment. Edgewood's scores on standardized tests are very high and there are very little disciplinary problems.

Edgewood is a wonderful school. The level of education is challenging and it shows in our 2005 FCAT scores. The atomosphere of the school is wonderful, everyone working as a team. Office staff and teachers know you by name. Edgewood is like getting a private school education for free! As this school grows, more traditions will be formed and will be the same as any other high school, just without football.

My daughter will be in the first graduating H.S. class from Edgewood. She hasn't attended very long (one semester) but I haven't seen her this excited in a long time. She loves this school and her teachers. I've looked at the coursework and I think it is excellent. I've gone to PTO meetings and was very impressed. Their principle is adored. She cannot find one bad thing to say about this school and in my limited dealings, neither can I. I give this school my highest endorsment.

We think it is great. They are adding a grade every year to they get to 12th. There is alot of homework though. We have sports and alot of extracurricular activities. This summer they are doing alot of renovations and that will be nice. All parents have to volunteer at least 20 hours and students have to volunteer at least 20 hours too. The teachers are great in communicating back and forth on the computer. If the students fall below grade level, parents don't volunteer their 20 hours and students too they have to leave the school. That is one reason our school is great too.

The staff has been wonderful. Fcat scores are great. Rated 'A' school. The lottery is done very professional. They keep you informed in all the events that are going on and coming up. Volunteering 20 hours per student and family is great. We are very excited about going there this fall. Thank you

Edgewood was for many years a middle school (7-8th grades) and a year at a time adding a senior HS class to ultimately complete a JR/SR college prep school in the school year 2006-2007. Already this grade A school is getting higher ratings and scores in the most rcent FCAT especially the new 'true' school of choice classes ( 7th and 9th grades) reflect this . Many initiatives at the school will lead this new 'school of choice' as the foremost prep school in the district. It is also anticipated that with families staying on for 6 (rather than 2)years will mean greater parent involvement and necessarily a more cohesive school.
